Infinite Space, Infinite God: Is that religion in my science fiction or science fiction in my religion? The writers of the Catholic SF anthology Infinite Space, Infinite God have so seamlessly combined the two that it's hard to tell.
Infinite Space, Infinite God features fifteen stories about the future Catholic Church: its struggles evangelize aliens and lost human colonies and to determine the soul-status of genetically modified humans, genetically-designed chimeras, and clones made from the Martian sand; the adventures of religious orders devoted to protecting interstellar travelers or inner-city priests; and how technical advances allow monks to live in solitude on the Moon and help one criminal learn the true meaning of Confession. But it's more than just a great read. With introductions exploring the issues at hand and current Church thinking, Infinite Space, Infinite God is bound to spark discussion and make people think--just as good science fiction should. Magic, Mensa and Mayhem: Vern is a cynical dragon living on the wrong side of the Interdimensional Gap and working off a geas by St. George as a professional problem solver and agent of the Faerie Catholic Church. When the elves get high on artificial flavorings and declare war on Florida, it turns into the toughest case they'd not get paid for. Why God Matters: How to Recognize Him in Daily Life: Far too often, we expect God to show Himself in grand ways yet ignore when He makes His presence known in the day to day. Neither Lumbert nor Fabian had dramatic conversions. Rather, God led them into deeper faith through the seemingly minor details of life: pot of rice, a habit of prayer, a frustrating flight home, or a barefooted stranger. This father-daughter team have written a delightful, quick book about finding God in the day-to-day. With thought-provoking quotes, heartwarming stories, Bible verses, passages from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and simple exercises the reader can fit into his or her daily routine, they help others recognize God's presence. Great for the casual or converting Catholic longing for something more in their relationship with God, or the "advanced" Catholic wanting light spiritual exercise.

The Miscria Trilogy: It's no fun to be psychic! In fact, being psychic landed Deryl Stephens in an asylum for five years, where he struggled to shield his mind from the thoughts and emotions of people barely in control of their own. Just as bad--and more disturbing--are the strange psychic Callings: the Miscria, an entity that pulls him from consciousness and imposes bizarre demands for information on everything from fortress construction to triage, and the Master, who has been slowly trying to turn him into a psychic killer. Then comes Intern Joshua Lawson who takes Deryl at his word and teaches him to accept and use his abilities. Suddenly, Deryl discovers the Miscria is humanoid, alien, female and trying desperately to protect her people from an invading alien army which the Master leads. When Deryl learns to teleport and goes to her, he finds an even greater danger--the worlds of the Miscria and the Master are on a collision course and he alone can stop them. (Book 3 in the works.) Discovery: An alien ship. A human love. A supernatural faith. Sister Rita rediscovers her Calling in Discovery. Based in the Rescue Sisters universe popularized in Infinite Space, Infinite God and Leaps of Faith.
This novel has been a long time coming. After some wonderful ideas and rewrites, a computer error took the entire manuscript and the back-ups. I'm beginning anew in August. While this book has had many terrible fits and starts, it calls to me like none of my other works. |

Dragon Eye, P.I.: Migrants, Magic, and Murder. The first in what I hope will become a series. Meet Vern, a Faerie North African Wyvern in his first case. A new immigrant to the Mundane world, Vern is having problems getting accepted, not the least of which is the fact that the government can't decide whether he's an animal, a person, or something undefined and in-between. When a migrant worker is found at a Mundane farm seemingly choked to death by the vines while nuns are mysteriously falling ill on the Faerie side, Vern finds himself involved in a murder mystery--but to solve it, he must battle the prejudice of an entire human race. |
